Day 1 – Arizona

Grand Canyon, Arizona, 2018

Day 1: 8/7/18

Arizona! WOW! Wow wow wow… This is one of the most beautiful areas I have seen. After a few flight delays in Denver, I ended up driving out of a 117 degree Phoenix and took the scenic route to Flagstaff via Sedona. Sedona… Beautiful! Unreal colors. I would be lying if the pictures I took did them justice. The layers of the red rocks were absolutely phenomenal, and I hit it right at sunset so the timing could not have been better. I was surprised that there weren’t many places to stop for photo-ops along the drive.

Exhausted, as I was/am, I went to the hotel bar for dinner where I met several locals who all gave me their opinions on everything from things to do to places to eat. The reality is that we are all protective of our hometown and we all want to showcase the best of what we know.

For dinner, I had Mongolian ribs with the Japanese Mojito. This was a bigger deal in terms of breaking my comfort zone than can really be expressed. Tomorrow is the Grand Canyon. Hope I don’t fall in…

People are interesting to talk to you on the road. You see all types. I met a Trump supporter who hates what he says but personally has benefited from the politics and business policies from Trump. He works in the medical supply field and was talking about Obamacare and the lack of local/international investment in it than compared to what is going on now. Kinda opened my eyes on perspective and the effect it has on people. Dude bought me a round so in the end, we are all Americans and need to get along…or better yet, listen to each other…or at least buy a round from time to time.
